About Susan:
“Susan Bein was born in Los Angeles in 1952 and began photographing as a teen because she couldn’t draw what she could see in her mind’s eye. She took classes from Ansel
Adams, Minor White, Aaron Siskind and Paul Caponigro, using black and white film and large format cameras.
After majoring in photography in college and teaching it she eventually became a graphic designer and teacher. When digital cameras came out their immediacy re-awakened her photographic muse, and when iPhones came out she fell in love with them as a creative tool and now uses them as her primary camera. Susan teaches and works remotely from Portland, Oregon

Her wonderful, fascinating—and I hope she won't mind me saying this—slightly bonkers—in a good way—pictures achieve that rare thing in a cynical, hard-bitten old photographer—they make me smile…Her pictures are simply exquisite, and the bonus is that you never know what they are going to be of. Portraits, cityscapes, landscapes, animals, travel—all wonderful and shot with a distinctive style that I can't really explain. Oh, and she puts things on her head too.

About our new online series, ‘Picture Picture’
‘Picture, Picture’ The Photographer Behind the Photos, airs once a month in place of our meetings and outings until COVID clears. Once we get back to monthly in-person meets and outings, we will continue to host this series as an online event to embrace our extended photographic community across the world.
